MONGOLIA IS CHAIRING IAEA'S GENERAL CONFERENCE OF 54TH SESSION
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and to other international organizations at Vienna and Mongolia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary J.Enkhsaikhan is chairing the IAEA General Conference 54th session held September 20-24 in Vienna, Austria.
The regular session of the IAEA will discuss and approve a report of the IAEA's director-general and a draft budget of the IAEA for 2011, consider 23 matters such as strengthening of international cooperation in nuclear and radiation security, safety transportation of radioactive waste, anti-terrorism measures, strengthening of activities within the agency's technical collaboration and actions related to nuclear sciences and technologies and their consumptions, improving of effects of the structure of nuclear guarantees, realizing the agreement on nuclear guarantee established between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the IAEA, utilizing the agency's guarantee in the Middle East, and on the nuclear capacity of Israel.
Mr. Enkhsaikhan has met with Gary Samore, a Special Assistant to the U.S President Barack Obama and the White House Coordinator for Arms Control and Weapons of Mass Destruction and Terrorism. They shared views on some issues reflected in the session's agenda on the nuclear capacity of Israel and the Middle East, and expressed a hope that this session will reach an agreement on the issues.
In frames of preparation for the session, Mr. Enkhsaikhan held meetings with some 60 officials such as Mr. Yukiya Amano, the IAEA's Director-General; permanent representatives of some countries; and officials of the IAEA's Secretariat.
The IAEA was established in 1957 with purposes to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons. As of today, the IAEA has been joining 151 countries.
