Jakarta, July 29 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) is to stage an exhibition dubbed "LIPI Expo 2008" in Jakarta August 4 to 6 to mark National Technology Revival Day and the centennial of National Awakening.

"Vice President Jusuf Kalla has agreed to offically open the expo," LIPI chief Prof Umar Anggara Jenie said after a meeting with Kalla at the latter's office here on Tuesday.

The expo would display 100 LIPI inventions and include the holding of seminars on competitive research findings where keynote speeches would be given by five ministers, two governors, the chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and the CEO of Pertamina.

Some ministers who would attend the expo are Welfare Minister Aburizal Bakrie, Health Minister Fadilah Supari, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Freddy Numberi, Industry Minister Fahmi Idris, and the Education Minister who will be represented by Director General Fasli Djalal.

According to Anggara, Vice President Jusuf Kalla had suggested to LIPI that the results of its research efforts be applicable by and beneficial to the society.

"In other words, if the research results are good and sophisticated but expensive, they will be useless," Anggara quoted Kalla as saying.

Among the exhibits at the expo would be the results of LIPI research on a superior type of rice which can survive in severe drought and is resistant to plant diseases.

Another exhibit would be a soybean seed that can reach a much higher productivity level than the normal kind.

In the energy field, the expo would show a device dubbed Electrical Fuel Treatment (EFT) that can help people save energy. The equipment was already in the market and even being exported.
