Russian defence experts arrive in Bishkek to negotiate Russian base status.

BISHKEK, September 20 (Itar-Tass) -- A team of experts from the
Russian Defence Ministry has arrived in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek to
negotiate the status and terms of stay of a Russian united military base
in Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz Defence Ministry' press service told Itar-Tass on
Monday.
"The team is headed by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the
Russian Armed Forces Colonel-General Valery Gerasimov," the press service
said.
Apart from the draft agreement on the status of the Russian base in
Kyrgyzstan, experts from the two countries will discuss "other key
problems of military cooperation," the press service said and added that
the two expert groups would work till September 23, when a final protocol
is to be signed.
The Kyrgyz delegation is headed by Deputy Defence Minister Asylbek
Ormokoyev.
Currently, Russia has a number of military facilities in the territory
of Kyrgyzstan. Under recent agreements between the two ministers of
defence, these facilities are to be reorganized as a united Russian base.
