MANADO TO HOST APFIC, RCFM

Manado, N Sulawesi, July 29 (ANTARA) - Manado, capital of North Sulawesi province, will host the 30th main session of the Asia Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC) and a meeting of the Regional Consultative Forum (RCFM) on August 5-13.

"Participants of the two events will come from APFIC member countries, UN member countries, UN special agencies, international organizations affiliated to FAO, experts from FAO member countries and local officials," spokesperson for the North Sulawesi Provincial Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Office Erni Tumundo said on Tuesday.

Indonesian Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Freddy Numberi is expected to open the 30th APFIC which serves as a meeting of senior officials from 20 APFIC member countries, Erni said.

The meeting will discuss a number of crucial issues, she said.

The RCFM which will last from August 6 to 8 serves as a technical meeting of experts in fisheries and maritime affairs, she said.

Erni said North Sulawesi Governor SH Sarundajang will open the three-day meeting which will discuss a number of topics related to fisheries in Asia and the Pacific.

"Around 50 foreign participants and 75 local participants will attend the RCFM," she said.

The two international events which will bring together about 300 local and foreign delegates will also serve as preparations for the holding of the World Ocean Conference (WOC) in Manado on May 11-15 next year, she said.
