PYONGYANG, September 20 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea regards as a next
provocation the final report on the sinking of the South Korean Cheonan
corvette at the end of March, published in Seoul on September 13,
The report said that the corvette had sunk as a result of a torpedo
attack from a North Korean submarine. With that in view, the North Korean
Rodong Sinmun newspaper stressed that by all appearances, the South Korean
authorities "don't intend to give up a conspiracy aimed against Pyongyang,
using the falsified case of the Cheonan sinking as a pretext".
The article said that moreover, the conservative forces in Seoul have
developed a new military strategy envisaging a preventive strike on the
territory of North Korea.
The Rodong Sinmun believes the South Korean authorities aggravate
tensions in order "to divert attention of the public from evident failures
in the foreign and domestic policy, as well as to prevent an improvement
in inter-Korean relations".
However, the newspaper notes, that "the events will not develop
according to the scenario written in Seoul".
The Cheonan went down on March 26 with 46 sailors on board near the
disputed inter-Korean maritime border, raising tensions between the two
Koreans, which technically remain at war. A team of experts from the USA,
Australia, Britain and Sweden looked into the sinking and came to the
conclusion that the ship had been destroyed by a torpedo fired by a North
Korean submarine. North Korea dismisses the accusations.
