Elderly man dies in Vic house fire

An elderly man has died after a house fire in Victoria's northwest.
A neighbour called emergency services just after 1pm on Saturday when he noticed
flames rising from a brick home in George Rd, Ararat.
The Country Fire Authority's Ararat operations officer Ross Anderson said the body
of a man aged in his 70s was discovered in a room adjacent to the kitchen.
Mr Anderson said the blaze was confined to the kitchen and experts were
investigating the cause of the fire.
Police said the deceased man was the home's sole occupant and at this stage the fire
is not believed to be suspicious.
The man's name has not been released.
