Iran-Syria presidents discuss latest regional, world issues

Damascus, Sept 18, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad reviewed the most important regional and international developments here Saturday.
Both presidents also exchanged views on mutual relations.
Pointing to the deep brotherly ties existing between the two countries, President Ahmadinejad said expansion of relations and further proximity between Tehran and Damascus would be to the benefit of both regional and international peace and security.
Turning to the situation in Palestine and Gaza, Ahmadinejad said Iran believed turning to people’s votes was the only solution to the issue of Palestine.
He stressed that true representatives of the Palestinian nation should be present in any kind of talks and negotiations on the issue.
He said Iran welcomed expansion of ties and cooperation with Syria in all possible areas.
During the meeting, the two presidents stressed the need for further exchange of views between Iranian and Syrian officials on regional and Islamic world developments.
Al-Assad said his country regarded expansion of ties with Iran not only to the benefit of Syria but the whole region.
He stressed that close cooperation between Iran and Syria would help strengthen brotherly relations within the Islamic world and would undoubtedly benefit regional nations and all Muslims./end
