Bushehr NPP promotes non-proliferation.
VIENNA, September 17 (Itar-Tass) -- The start-up of the first reactor
at the Russia-built Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr "is a vivid
example of cooperation in the sphere of peaceful use of nuclear energy and
a contribution that enhances non-proliferation regime," Grigory
Berdennikov, Russia's chief IAEA delegate, told a session of the
International Atomic Energy Agency on Thursday.
He recalled the first criticality of the reactor began on August 21
under IAEA control. "The event signifies the completion of construction
and tests of all systems of the NPP," he said.
"The project is exemplary in promoting strict compliance with nuclear
non-proliferation regime. During the whole period of plant operations the
fuel will be supplied by Russia on conditions of subsequent return. The
whole operating process, as well as supplies and return of fuel will be
fully supervised by the IAEA," Berdennikov said.
