Russia to supply Yakhont missiles to Syria.
WASHINGTON, September 17 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia will fulfill its
three-year old contract and supply Yakhont supersonic anti-ship cruise
missiles to Syria, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said on Thursday.
"We shall supply Yakhont to Syria, we shall fulfill the contract," he
told reporters.
Serdyukov who is paying an official visit to the United States,
recalled similar missiles had earlier been supplied to Syria while Yakhont
is a modernized version. "If those missiles did not get into the hands of
terrorists why these ones should?" he asked.
"It is a 2007 contract. Why should it be stopped in 2010?" he said.
