Injured soldier evacuated from E Timor

An Australian soldier has been airlifted from East Timor to Darwin after being
seriously injured in a balcony fall.
The soldier was evacuated aboard an Australian Black Hawk helicopter from the town
of Bacau to a medical facility in Dili, following the Wednesday night accident.
He was transferred to Darwin on a United Nations flight on Thursday afternoon.
Defence said the soldier was seriously ill but was conscious and in a stable condition.
Details of his injuries were not available to the media.
An investigation is being conducted into the cause of the accident, Defence said.
The soldier will undergo testing with imaging equipment in Darwin, which was not
available in East Timor.
He had been deployed to East Timor as part of Operation Tower, a four-person
Australian Defence Force commitment to the UN.
