Thailand's PTT opens ASEAN's largest distribution centre for plastic resin

RAYONG, Sept 16 - Thailand's PTT Polymer Logistics division on Thursday opened Southeast Asia's largest international distribution centre for plastic resin in this eastern province to facilitate plastic resin shipping to overseas buyers.

PTT president and chief executive officer, Prasert Bunsumpun, and representatives from public and private agencies participated in the opening ceremony.

According to Mr Prasert, the centre will initially provide services to the PTT Group's subsidiary companies, which are PTT Polyethylene to receive 700,000 tonnes of plastic resin per year, and Bangkok Polyethylene PCL for 300,000 tonnes per year.

PTT Polymer Logistics is able to support plastic resin of around 1 million tonnes annually and expected to expand its capacity to 1.5 million tonnes in the future and provide services to other plastic resin companies.

As PTT Group's subsidiary companies can produce plastic resin of around 1.65 million tonnes per year, PTT needs to lower its transportation costs for more profit efficiency, said Mr Prasert.

Regarding the distribution method, plastic resin will be transported by a closed system via tube and packaged by machine, while all the warehouse management will be controlled via a software system.

PTT Polymer Logistics's centre can distribute its goods from cargo via ship and rail line up to around 4,500 tonnes daily, making it the largest and most modern distribution centre in South East Asia. (MCOT online news)
