Amendment on ASEAN-China Free Trade Area approved
BANGKOK, Sept 15 – The Thai Parliament on Wednesday endorsed an amendment regarding the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) to reduce trade obstacles and facilitate importers and exporters.
The ACFTA amendment, under the Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation between ASEAN and China, involves improving the implementation of the Operational Certification Procedures to monitor and facilitate both countries applying tariff privileges.
The amendment will also allow member countries to issue Certificates of Origin (CO) before exporting procedures. Earlier, CO could be only issued while goods were being exported or after they were exported.
Moreover, the amendment will facilitate the examination of cargoes, which apply tariff privileges under the agreement.
Goods made in Thailand and China with appropriate certificates of origin will receive tariff privileges from the other despite invoices being issued by third parties. Break bulk cargoes also benefit from tariff privileges under the ACFTA, according to the agreement. (MCOT online news)
