MOSCOW, September 15 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's
upcoming visit to Hanoi slated for October and the 2nd Russian-ASEAN
summit will give an impetus to strategic partnership between Russia and
Vietnam, vice-president of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(CCI) Georgy Petrov said.
The CCI vice-president opened the Russian-Vietnamese economic forum on
Wednesday. It is timed to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between Russia and Vietnam.
"The development of truly strategic cooperation between Moscow and
Hanoi is based on political will by the Russian and Vietnamese leadership.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's official visit to the Vietnamese
capital will give an impetus to strengthening it," he stressed.
According to Petrov, "Russia and Vietnam maintain fruitful cooperation
on the world arena." He recalled that Vietnam "will host the ASEAN
business and investment summit and the 2nd Russian-ASEAN summit on October
27-29".
"Despite the consequences of the world economic crisis, mutual trade
between the two countries continues to grow. In the first six months of
the year trade turnover increased by 16.6 percent and reached 924 U.S.
dollars," the CCI vice-president stated.
Russian-Vietnamese economic partnership is based on the oil and gas
sector. "Our relations developed dynamically in the electric power
industry, mobile telecommunications, information technology, the assembly
of cargo automotive equipment, rubber production and the banking sector.
Chemical production and pharmaceutics are the newest promising fields of
cooperation," the Russian official said.
Apart from the oil and gas sector, Vietnam implements 59 projects with
Russian investments of 376.4 million U.S. dollars. According to the
Russian Economic Development Ministry, Vietnam's investments into the
Russian economy amount to about 246 million U.S. dollars.
"Of course, such figures do not meet the whole potential of
Russian-Vietnamese cooperation. The exchange of information on the working
conditions on the markets can help improve the state of affairs in this
aspect," the CCI vice-president said.
