Pak analyst condemns IAEA claims against Iran N-program

Islamabad, Sep 15, IRNA -- A renowned Pakistani journalist, Zahid Malik on Tuesday strongly condemned International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) claims against Iran adding that the nuclear watchdog is trying to politicize Iran’s nuclear issue.

Talking to IRNA, he endorsed the statement of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad saying that the IAEA claims against Iran are made under US pressure.

“I have gone through the report and come to the conclusion that the IAEA is pursuing the US agenda”, he viewed.

“The IAEA chief presses claims against our country under pressure from the US government while refusing to provide us with any evidence. Therefore, such comments are merely political rhetoric and lack legality,” President Ahmadinejad said.

“It is widely acknowledged that the IAEA adopts its stances under political pressure from permanent members of the UN Security Council and this accounts for one of the reasons that it has failed to disarm nuclear- armed states and prevent proliferation,” he added.

Zahid Malik expressing his opinion said that reaction of the Iranian President on the report is based on reality. “The statement of Iranian President reflects the sentiments of Iranian nation”, he said.

He said that the Iranian nation is determined to acquire the civil nuclear technology and it is their right.

The analyst said that Iran being signatory of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) has a right to use nuclear energy for peaceful means

He opined that the situation is growing more and more difficult after the IAEA report on Iran’s nuclear program. “Iran has been cooperating with the IAEA over its nuclear program”, he said.

Zahid Malik was of the view that US is trying to gather the world opinion against Iran’s nuclear program through IAEA.

He said agenda of Americans is to drag Iran into a controversy regarding its nuclear program. “The report of the IAEA is part of the international conspiracy against Iran”, he viewed.

The analyst added the pressure on Iran’s nuclear program is baseless and unjustified. “Iran is a responsible country and it should be allowed to develop nuclear energy without any external pressure”, he said.

Zahid Malik said that a country like Israel has ambitions for a large scale nuclear program yet west is not putting any pressure on Israel.

He said that west has to come out of its contradictory policies towards Iran. “West has to change its approach towards Iran”, he viewed./end
