Chinese citizen who tried to buy arms detained in Irkutsk.

IRKUTSK, September 14 (Itar-Tass) -- A citizen of China who tried to
buy a batch of weapons has been detained in Irkutsk.
As deputy chief of the criminal police of the Main Interior Department
for the Irkutsk Region Gennady Korniyenko told ITAR-TASS on Tuesday, "at
the end of 2009, the law enforcement bodies paid attention to a
49-year-old resident of China who came to Russia several times as a
tourist and tried to purchase a big batch of weapons with the aim of
taking it abroad." In particular, he wanted to buy 20 Kalashnikov
submachine-guns.
The foreigner was detained red handed when he bought a TT pistol from
an officer of one of military units.
Criminal proceedings were instituted against the detainee.
