Future belongs to Iran, Africa: Malawian president

Tehran, Sept 14, IRNA – Malawian President Bingu Wa Mutharika said here on Tuesday that the future belongs to Iran and Africa.

He made the remarks while addressing the first Iran-Africa panel discussion opened in Tehran this morning in the presence of several presidents, ministers and high ranking officials from 40 countries.

President Mutharika, who is the current chairman of the African Union, called on the Iranian private sector to play a more active role in Africa.

Underlining the need for further expansion of all-out ties between Iran and African states, he called for closer bilateral cooperation in the areas of combat against terrorism and establishment of peace and economic stability.

He urged the Western leaders to review their discriminatory approaches towards Africa.

Ministers of foreign affairs, industries and mines, and health of several African states as well as representatives from their active economic and investment companies are attending the gathering along with journalists and press officials from the black continent.

The event will wrap up on September 15./end
