30 Tibetan protesters arrested near Nepal-China border
Kathmandu, July 29 (PTI) - At least 30 Tibetan protesters were arrested Monday near Nepal-China border as they weretrying to march back to Tibet.
"The Tibetans were apprehended as they sheltered in Batase village ahead of their attempt to cross the border into Tibet," a police officer said, adding that they would be sentback to Kathmandu Monday itself.
The Tibetan exiles, including monks and nuns, had trekked to Batase village in Sindhupalchowk district, about a week ago on way to their homeland through secret route. They had started their trek from Sankhu village situated in the easternKathmandu.
It is the second time in a month that Tibetan exiles tried to cross the Nepal-China border as part of anti-China protests. Over 40 Tibetans were held by police near the borderearlier this month.
There have been almost daily demonstrations by Tibetan protesters in different parts of the country includingKathmandu demanding a free Tibet.
Human Rights Watch, a US-based rights group, last week had accused Nepal of caving in to pressure from China byarbitrarily arresting hundreds of Tibetan protesters.
