A teenage boy is facing multiple charges over a serious assault on a female tourist
at a school in Cairns.
Police confirmed the 15-year-old boy faces multiple charges after a 20-year-old
woman was sexually assaulted and beaten during an attack in the grounds of Cairns
State High School between midnight and 1.30am (AEST) on September 7.
The woman, a German tourist who had only been in Australia a few weeks, was found
about 1.35am (AEST) at the corner of Grafton and Grove streets in Cairns North with
serious head wounds and missing her handbag, thongs and black leggings.
The teenager has been charged with robbery with violence, assault occasioning bodily
harm and assault with intent after a public appeal for help from the police.
The attack left the woman hospitalised with facial fractures described as "quite
savage" by police.
