AZERBAIJAN LEADS CIS COUNTRIES IN WORLD GIVING INDEX 2010
Baku, September 12 (AzerTAc). Charities and Aid Foundation (CAF) has released its annual World Giving Index, in which Azerbaijan outclassed other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Azerbaijan ranked 67th in the Index, which is primarily based upon data from Gallup`s WorldView World Poll (worldview.gallup.com), an ongoing research project carried out in 153 countries that together represent around 95% of the world`s population.
The World Giving Index classified the world countries in three different types of charitable behavior - giving money, giving time and helping a stranger.
The report, which highlighted the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s role in improving the standard of living in Azerbaijan, revealed that 22% of the country`s population was ready to give its money, 27% to volunteer its time, while 48% to help a stranger in a charity.
Azerbaijan ranked 3rd in Eastern Europe behind Cyprus and Slovenia, outclassing Belarus, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Baltic countries.
The top ten countries in the World Giving Index included Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Switzerland, Ireland, the USA, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Austria and Sri Lanka.
The report also revealed than only 6% of the bottom-placed Armenia`s population was ready to spend its money for charity.
