DPRK offers S Korea to resume meetings of separated families.
11/9 Tass 46
PYONGYANG, September 11 (Itar-Tass) -- The DPRK offered South Korea to
resume meetings of family members separated the Korean War of 1950-1953.
As the central news agency of North Korea reported on Saturday, chairman
of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society Jang Jae On came
out with this initiative. He believes that such meetings may be organized
on the occasion of the forthcoming people's holiday of gathered harvest.
Jang Jae On offered the Red Cross Society to hold working meetings to
discuss this issue in the near future.
Meetings of separated families were stopped because of the worsening
of inter-Korean relations. The incident connected with the South Korean
Cheonan corvette which sank in the Yellow Sea late in March contributed to
it. The official Seoul made Pyongyang responsible for the vessel's
sinking. The DPRK flatly rejects this accusation.
