Arabic Manuscripts Exhibition opens in Leipzig University 2

SPA = The exhibition displays valuable pieces from 1500 years of Islamic book culture. These include very rare and beautiful pieces, like a Koran decorated with gold, and the "Book of jewellery", a linguistic, cultural and religious Encyclopedia of Abu Hatim Ar-Razi from the 12th Century. There are manuscripts from Sunnah (the Prophet's traditions), law, mysticism as well as scientific and medical books.

In addition, there are works of heritage poetry and prose.

The University of Leipzig has approximately 3,200 Oriental writings about Islam in many languages inclusive of Arabic, Persian andOttoman in its unusually rich stock.

The exhibition is organized by the German Foreign Ministry and will be open for visitors until September 27. It displays nearly 800manuscripts.
