Joining of Transkorean Railway to Trassib to increase goods traffic-pres.
10/9 Tass 169
MOSCOW, September 10 (Itar-Tass) -- President Lee Myung-bak of South
Korea believes that the joining of Transkorean Railway to Transiberian
Railway will make it possible to increase goods traffic in this region.
The president said this in an interview with the information TV channel
"Russia 24."
"It will allow to increase goods traffic in this region, and thus it
will promote the development of railway-motor transport in Russia," the
president said.
"Russia and Korea have been cooperating in this field for a long time,
and we admit this necessity," Lee Myung-bak said. "But the matter is that
the joint railway is to go via the territory of North Korea, and I hope
that in future North Korea will agree without fail to the project of
joining because not only Russia but the Republic of Korea and the DPRK
will gain by it as well.
Lee Myung-bak also said that Korean companies show great interest in
developing the Far East and Eastern Siberia. "Exactly in this region
different projects connected with supplies of natural resources to South
Korea, including with supplies of liquefied natural gas in our country,
are being studied now," he said.
