Arabic Manuscripts Exhibition opens in Leipzig University

Berlin, July 29, SPA - German State Minister for Europe Günter Gloser opened today at University of Leipzig the Exhibition of Islamic and Arabic Manuscripts of The Institute of Oriental Studies in the presence of a representative of The Royal Saudi Embassy inGermany.

In an inaugural address, Gloser said Islamic sciences have had a great contribution to European civilization and illuminated Europe through knowledge as well as their contributions to the developmentof medical science, mathematics and engineering.

"Without the efforts of Muslim scientists, Europe would not know thefigure of 'Zero' which helped in developing mathematics and sciences.

Without Zero, civilization would remain at the zero point," he added.

He pointed out that the Arab-German relations dates back to hundreds of years, since the advent of Islam, especially its strength in Spain and Italy. "Arab Muslims have been credited to introduce to Europe the paper industry." He urged the participants at the opening ceremony of the exhibition to study the civilization of Islam, which had contributed in the pastand continue to enrich the renaissance of all mankind.
