Russia presents ILO conventions ratification instruments to ILO chief.
MOSCOW, September 9 (Itar-Tass) --Russia's Permanent Representative to
the U.N. Office and other International Organisations at Geneva, Valery
Loshchinin, has delivered to ILO Director General Juan Somavia the
instruments of ratification by the Russian Federation of the ILO
Conventions concerning Holidays with Pay, concerning Protection and
Facilities to be afforded to Workers' Representatives in the Undertaking
and concerning the Promotion of Collective Bargaining (ILO Conventions
132, 135 and 154).
The instruments of ratification were presented on September 6.
Russia's ratification of several major ILO international instruments
is in line with the policy of the Russian government to build a rule of
law state and enhance international labour and social standards and has
been prompted by concern for the rights of workers and by the desire to
lay the groundwork for a modern economy at the heart of which the
interests of the working man and woman should lie in the first place.
Director General Somavia expressed his appreciation to the Russian
leadership for this momentous event for the international community. He
stressed that the accession of Russia to the three highly important ILO
Conventions all at once is a testimony to our country's commitment to the
ideals of decent work and to increased cooperation with the International
Labour Organisation.
