Ukraine, Russia prioritise development of common border infrastructure.

LVOV, September 9 (Itar-Tass) -- The construction of crossing points
on the common border and simplification of border crossing formalities
remain among priority tasks for the Ukrainian and Russian border guard
services.
The head of Ukraine's Border Guard Service, Nikolai Litvin, and first
deputy director of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and head of the
Border Guard Service, Vladimir Pronichev, met in Lvov on Wednesday,
September 8, to discuss these are other related issues.
They noted the stability of border security in the region, which has
become possible due to "joint efforts". Litvin said.
Pronichev stressed that the action plans of the two services for 2001,
signed on Wednesday, "is designed to keep security on the common border at
the appropriate level."
The two officials noted positive dynamics in cooperation. Almost 14
million people and 2.2 million vehicles have crossed the border since the
beginning of the year, which represents an increase of 2 percent and 6
percent respectively from last year.
Litvin and Pronichev spoke positively of joint measures against
poaching and for the protection of marine bio resources in the Sea of Azov.
They also expressed satisfaction with the level of anti-drug
cooperation. In the first seven months of the year, 49 kilograms of drugs,
about 150 firearms and almost 2,000 pieces of ammunition were seized.
