Thai stock index surges to highest point in over 13 years in August
BANGKOK, Sept 9 - The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) composite index
surged to 913.19 points at the end of last month, the highest in 13 years and eight months or since December 1996, according to the SET summary report on securities trading in August.
The index at the end of August rallied continuously and closed at 913.19 points, up 6.7 per cent from the end of the previous month and 24.32 per cent from the end of last year.
It is the strongest rally of any stock market index in the region, boosted by the high liquidity in the global financial market.
Clear economic indicators that the Thai economy had enjoyed a strong recovery led to the continued flow of foreign capital into the Thai bourse and is a key factor behind the SET rally.
In the past three months, SET continued to experience increased net buying of shares by foreign investors.
At the end of August, the SET index reached the highest point in 13 years and eight months, resulting in the market capitalisation surging to Bt7.43 trillion, the record high since the establishment of the bourse. (MCOT online news)
