Fallen soldier farewelled
The latest Australian soldier to die in Afghanistan has been farewelled in Adelaide.
Private Tomas Dale, 21, was killed after an improvised explosive device strike in
the Baluchi Valley in Oruzgan province on August 20.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott attended Pte Dale's
military funeral in Adelaide on Wednesday.
Pte Dale was killed alongside Pte Grant Kirby, while standing near a Bushmaster
vehicle.
Both were serving with the Australian 1st Mentoring Task Force on their first
deployments to Afghanistan.
Defence Minister John Faulkner, Defence chief Angus Houston and Chief of Army
Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie joined Pte Dale's family and friends at the
funeral.
Members of Brisbane-based 6RAR formed a guard, escorts and the bearer party.
Pte Dale is served by his father David, mother Karen and brothers Sam and Joe.
The number of Australian soldiers killed in the conflict has reached 21.
