India-Poland discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties

New Delhi, Sept 8, IRNA -- India and Poland Tuesday evening discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relationship especially in the fields of defence, trade and investment in a series of meetings between Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Indian leadership in New Delhi.

Tusk, who arrived in Bangalore Monday, held delegation level talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.

After his meeting with Singh, both sides inked a pact to enhance cultural exchanges between India and Poland.

Both leaders also discussed global issues like reform of the United Nations Security Council and climate change. They agreed to expand cooperation in the field of clean coal technology, said an official statement issued here.

Tusk and Singh also exchanged views on regional issues of common concern, including Afghanistan, the statement added.

Tusk, who was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan after arriving from Bangalore, will fly to Agra tomorrow.

Tusk was received by President Pratibha Patil and Vice-President M Hamid Ansari during the day today. Earlier, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur and Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj called on him.

Tusk is a first non-communist Polish Prime Minister to visit India on an official trip./end
