DPRK demands US pulling out its troops from South Korea.
7/9 Tass 69
PYONGYANG, September 7 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea demanded that the
United States should pull out its troops from the southern part of the
Korean Peninsula.
A statement, published here by the Law Institute of the country's
Academy of Sciences and transmitted by the KCNA news agency, notes that
the US "illegally occupied South Korea, imposing there the colonial sway".
Institute experts noted that "the staggering blows, inflicted by the
Korean People's Revolutionary Army along with the Soviet Armed Forces in
August 1945, had resulted in the complete rout of the Kwantung Army, a
radical change in the military and political situation in the Far East and
as a result - in the quick capitulation of Japan".
However, Washington, under the pretext of "disarming the Japanese
army", announced the territory, located south of the 38th parallel, its
occupation zone. American troops arrived in the South of the Korean
Peninsula on September 8, 1945, that is after the end of the Second World
War.
These actions, the statement stresses, "were a crude violation of the
sovereignty of the Korean nation, international legal norms and agreements
on Korea". The 1950-1953 Korean War, unleashed later through the fault of
the US, "brought Koreans incalculable calamities and sufferings".
"The threat of a war persists" in the new age over the US provocative
policy in the Korean Peninsula, the statement notes. North Korean lawyers
call on their colleagues in other countries to back the just struggle of
Koreans for a withdrawal of American troops from the region.
