ASEAN secretary-general confident of new Thai FM's competence
JAKARTA, July 28 (TNA) – Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan on Sunday expressed confidence thatThailand's newly-appointed Foreign Minister Tej Bunnag would be able to perform his duty efficiently.
Asked to comment by telephone interview on the appointment of the newforeign minister of Thailand, he said that Mr. Tej is well recognized in the diplomatic arena.
He had been entrusted to become Thailand's ambassador to the United States and many countries.
In addition, he had been admired by the ministry's officials all along. So, he is suitable to assume the foreign ministerial portfolio.
Mr. Surin said he hoped the Tej-led delegation would manage to negotiate smoothly with the Cambodian side on the dispute over the overlapping area adjacent to the ancient Preah Vihear temple located on the Thai-Cambodian border.
He also called on all parties to give moral support and boost to the Thai delegation scheduled to meet with the Cambodian counterpart on Monday. (TNA)
