Arrest warrants out for 2 Serbian suspects in Rayong ATM theft
RAYONG, Sept 2 – A court in this eastern province on Thursday approved warrants for two Serbian men suspected of breaking into an automated teller machine (ATM) on August 27 in the provincial seat of Rayong, a senior local police officer said.
Warrants have been issued for Dejan Maricic, 40, and Aleksandra Vrencev, 40 alleged for breaking into an ATM machine of Bank of Ayudhya, Krachet branch, early last Friday morning, said the commander of the Rayong provincial police, Pol Maj Gen Thanitsak Theerasawat.
Immigration police at Sa Kaeo province's Aranyaprathet border checkpoint found that both Serbian nationals escaped to the neighbouring country of Cambodia on August 27.
Meanwhile, two other suspects in the robbery are believed to remain in Thailand, said Gen Thanitsak.
Police presumed that the four accused divided the money stolen from the bank.
In related developments, investigators collected hair and latent fingerprints in and around a pickup truck which the suspects used for further examination as well as tracing the other two Serbians believed to remain at large in the country in order to seek arrest warrants.
Earlier the police seized the vehicle from a car rental office in resort seaside province of Chon Buri.
The theft took place in the early morning of August 27 when the Serbian suspects broke into the ATM located in front of Ayudhya Bank, Krachet branch in the provincial seat. They removed some Bt4.3 million (over US$130,300) contained in the ATM. (MCOT online news)
