IRAQ`S CITY OF NAJAF - CAPITAL OF ISLAMIC CULTURE FOR 2012
Baku, September 2 (AzerTAc). Iraqi Culture Ministry has already started planning some events regarding the city of Najaf`s proclamation of the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2012.
The preparatory activities, first of all, include restoration of the city`s historical and architectural monuments. To this end, a competition has been announced for Iraqi and foreign companies.
Najaf`s mayor Adnan Al-Zorfi said a final decision on the issue has been made, and the project, worth $78 million, will be realized by a Turkish company. The project envisages construction of new theatre, museum and other cultural institutions.
As earlier informed, the city of Najaf was proclaimed as the Capital of Islamic Culture in the sixth meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference`s Culture Ministers held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
