Baku, September 1 (AzerTAc). The Iraqi city of Al-Najaf is drawing up a plan of action which will include the events the city will host in the capacity of 2012 Islamic culture capital for the Arab region.
According to Al-Najaf Mayor Adnan Al-Zorfi, the ministry of culture is now preparing the budget for the events.
“We plan to reconstruct a number of historic and cultural monuments across Al-Najaf.”
“And we`ve already announced a tender for local and foreign companies which was won by a Turkish firm.”
“The $78 million-project includes construction of theatres, museums and other cultural facilities,” he added.
Al-Najaf was designated as the 2012 Islamic culture capital at the sixth Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers in Baku last year.
