Ukraine to participate in Brazilian Defence Ministry's ship tender.

KIEV, August 31 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine's Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard
will take part in the Brazilian Defence Ministry's tender on the supply of
five patrol ships and five frigates, the press service of the Ukrainian
Industrial Policy Ministry said on Monday.
Ukrainian Industrial Policy Minister Dmitry Kolesnikov and Brazilian
Defence Minister Nelson Jobim discussed the issue in Brazil within the
framework of the meeting of the bilateral commission on trade and economic
cooperation on August 26-27.
Moreover, the ministers agreed that the Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard
will repair four ships of Brazil's Transpetro.
Brazil expressed interest in Ukraine's An-family planes, including
An-38, An-178, An-70, An-74TK-300.
"We proposed our technical support in creating their new transport
plane KS-390. This is Embraer's first experience," the Brazilian minister
said.
The parties also discussed an opportunity for joint coal production in
Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, with participation of the Malyshev
Factory, Ukraine's state-run heavy equipment manufacturer.
Brazil's National Bank for Economic and Social Development expressed
readiness to finance Ukraine's projects.

.Kyrgyzstan marks 19th anniversary of independence.

BISHKEK, August 31 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyzstan marks the 19th anniversary
of independence on Tuesday.
The republic's cities and towns will mark this date with concerts and
open air celebrations, the government's press service told Itar-Tass.
Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva has already received congratulations
from leaders of the United States, Kazakhstan, Turkey, China and UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the press service said.
Kyrgyzstan will host celebrations without any special optimism
following recent tragic events that took lives of many people. First blood
was shed on April 6-8 during the unpredicted change of power, second one
over the past five years, when Kyrgyz president Kurmanbek Bakiyev was
forced to step down. During clashes between police and the opposition on
Bishkek's central square over 150 were killed and injured.
Tensions hit the Central Asian republic not only in April, but also in
May. In June they escalated into ethnic conflicts in the Osh and
Jalal-Abad regions. As a result of ethnic clashes between the Kyrgyz and
Uzbeks 400 people were killed and another 2,300 were injured.
Experts say the government managed to stop mass riots, but tensions
remain in the republic's southern regions. The government tries to
conciliate the two nations and hastily builds houses that were put on fire
during the riots. International financial institutions extended hundreds
of millions of dollars for the housing construction, but the Kyrgyz
government admits that it will be unable to build new houses for those in
need before winter comes.
The problems are aggravated by the economic slowdown that is
registered in the republic, while Kyrgyzstan's foreign debt has already
exceeded 2.5 billion dollars.
Kyrgyzstan marks its anniversary for the first time as a parliamentary
republic. During the referendum last June the republic adopted a new
constitution with such a form of government. However, there are many
opponents of this reform, including those among influential politicians.
Kyrgyzstan's parliamentary elections will take place on October 10.

project in Tatarstan on the production of nano-structured thin-film
materials.

said Airat Bashirov, the director of Danaflex company.
By 2016 Kazan's new enterprise will produce up to 50,000 packaging
materials a year, 25 percent of them will be made with the use of
nanotechnologies.
Fifteen nanotechnologies centres are expected to be created in Russia.

KIEV, August 31 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine and Brazil will begin to build a
launch pad for Cyclone-4 rockets in September, the press service of the
Ukrainian Industrial Policy Ministry said on Monday after the meeting of
the bilateral commission on trade and economic cooperation on August 26-27.
The Ukrainian delegation was led by Industrial Policy Minister Dmitry
Kolesnikov and the Brazilian delegation - by Undersecretary General for
Political Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Vera Barrouin Machado.
"The parties pointed to considerable progress in the implementation of
the binational project, which allows to begin the construction of a launch
complex for Cyclone-4 at Alcantara spaceport," the press service said.
"Already in September Brazil's president will take part in a brick-laying
ceremony for a launch pad construction."
Ukraine and Brazil signed a treaty on long-term cooperation in the use
of Cyclone-4 rockets at Alcantara launch complex on October 21, 2003. The
first start to this program was scheduled for late 2010.
Russian companies, in particular the Transport Machine-Building Design
Bureau, are also engaged in the project.
In June 2009 Russia and Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement
on technologies protection in the exploration and use of the outer space
for peaceful purposes and in the creation of rockets and space systems.
