Industry minister to lead top investment officials to Guangzhou and Shanghai
BANGKOK, Aug 31 – Thailand's Minister of Industry Chaiwuti Bannawat on Monday said he will lead a team of top Board of Investment (BoI) officials to the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Shanghai to help conduct "Thailand Means Business” seminars there.
The events are held to persuade Chinese businesses to invest in Thailand and build confidence among them.
It features a lecture on the topic of investment opportunities in Thailand. Chinese investors in Thailand are invited to give details on ways to do business in Thailand to participants in the seminar.
In addition, the Thai delegation will meet representatives of China’s giant telecom service provider with the service network available in more than 100 countries worldwide. Currently, the number of service users reach one third of the world population.
The delegation will also visit a state enterprise under the supervision of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, which runs the business of natural rubber growing, processing, selling and research.
“In this road show in China, the ministry and BoI are strongly determined to attract investment, give details on investment sentiment in Thailand, and explain about the political situation. We believe it will help enhance a positive attitude toward Chinese investors’ decision to invest in Thailand,” he said.
BoI Deputy Secretary-General Pasu Loharjun said applications for investment promotions by Chinese investors in the first seven months of this year doubled from the same period the year before.
The number of investment projects seeking BoI promotion status totaled 17 with an investment value of Bt7.12 billion, a rise by more than 2 billion baht. One of the projects is a Sino-Thai joint venture on electricity generation. (MCOT online news)
