PRIME MINISTER MEETS JAPAN'S FOREIGN MINISTER

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Prime Minister of Mongolia S.Batbold received Monday Mr. Katsuya Okada, the Foreign Minister of Japan, in the Government House.
After receiving the post a year ago, Mr. Okada has paid official visits to Australia, China, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and Vietnam before this visit.
The Premier expressed his satisfaction with a present situation of Mongolia-Japan relations and cooperation and their further approaches, and thanked Japan's side for comprehensively supporting Mongolia from the times of its transmitting into democracy and market society. Mr. Batbold mentioned an importance of intensifying the economic development ties between the two countries, and said Mongolia has a willingness to establish an agreement with Japan on the economic comprehensive partnership. He pointed out that Japanese investors have an opportunity to take part in the biggest projects and programs that are expected to be implemented in developing of the infrastructure such as railways, of energy and housing.
In response, Mr. Okada said he had learned that Mongolia's government has been intensively running biggest works to develop the economy. The bilateral relations and cooperation have been boosting at the comprehensive partnership level, he went on. The sides should widen the ties by enriching them with contents and activities, he suggested and expressed a willingness to cooperate in establishing the economic partnership agreement.
Mr. Okada underlined that the bilateral comprehensive partnership relations must serve as an example for other countries, and said the Japanese investors want to cooperate with Mongolia in the mineral resources, infrastructure and mining spheres, namely in exploitation of the Tavan tolgoi coal deposit and in uranium sector.
The Premier said Mongolia adheres to developing the manufacture of value-added products. “Mongolia is exporting raw materials to foreign countries without processing them, so the government is aiming to develop factories of processing raw materials. The way of developing processing factories is to hold commercial talks with countries,” Mr. Batbold stressed.
Mentioning that Japan is an important partner of Mongolia in terms of high technologies, management and investments as well, the Premier pointed out that the Japanese technology will be needed in establishing a new energy source for Ulaanbaatar city.
