Woman lay injured on busy Melbourne road

Police are astounded nobody saw how a woman ended up in the middle of a busy
Melbourne road with life-threatening injuries.
An ambulance on its way back to base came across 61-year-old Leakhana Om lying in
the middle of Clayton Road, East Oakleigh, about 11am (AEST) on Friday.
She had suffered multiple injuries, including spinal damage, a fractured pelvis,
fractured ribs, a fractured collar bone and collapsed lung.
Mrs Om told the paramedics she had been hit by a truck.
Police were only alerted to the incident when Mrs Om's daughter reported it on
Saturday night.
Mrs Om is now in The Alfred hospital in an induced coma.
Senior Constable Mark Smith said it was "astounding" nobody had seen the incident
and reported it to police.
"My experience is it's obvious that someone saw what happened and we just need to
speak to those people," he said.
"You would think with the injuries she sustained and the fact that she was on the
roadway when found, that the person or persons would know what happened."
Sen Const Smith said if the driver had deliberately driven off, it was a very
callous act.
Mrs Om's daughter, Socheata Ty, said her mother was probably on a morning walk when
the incident happened.
She said she was angry and sad that no one had reported it.
"How can the driver just leave her there, and no one stopped," she told reporters.
She appealed to the driver to contact police and tell them what had happened.
Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers.
