Sood praises Nepalese officers for their work during conflict
Kathmandu, July 27 (PTI) - Indian Ambassador to Kathmandu, Rakesh Sood, Saturday said local development officials back home should emulate the "commendable" work done by their Nepalese counterparts during the long-running conflict in theHimalayan nation.
"Nepalese local development officers have done a remarkable job by implementing schemes during the conflict period. Their experience should inspire Indian officials as well," Sood said while addressing a day-long seminar on 'Local Development in Nepal and India: Challenges and Opportunities'at the Gokarna Forest Resort in Kathmandu Saturday.
"The visits exchanged between Nepalese and Indian officials will reinforce close professional ties between civil servants of the two countries," he told the participating senior government staff of Nepal who recently returned from astudy visit to India.
In his inaugural address, Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office in Nepal Dipendra Bikram Thapa said his country needs cooperation and support from India at a timewhen it is in the process of drafting a new constitution.
He also stressed on the need for continued interactionamong development administrators of Nepal and India.
The papers submitted at the seminar, organized jointly by B P Koirala Nepal-India Foundation and the Indian Embassy, included 'Local governance and democracy: Indian experience'and 'Right to Information: Tool for development'.
