Russian convicted in Tajikistan for extremism propaganda
.
27/8 Tass 174
DUSHANBE, August 27 (Itar-Tass) - The Dushanbe City Court sentenced to
nine years in a tough security penitentiary Russian citizen from Dagestan
Ahmed Sultanov on charges of extremism propaganda, particularly for the
appeals to the Jihad (the holy war against the non-Muslims), a source in
the city prosecutor's office told Itar-Tass on Friday.
The indictment holds that Sultanov had been an activist of the
religious extremist organization Jamaat Shariat, which has close ties with
the Taliban militants. After the training at a special camp in Afghanistan
under the orders from the Jamaat Shariat chiefs he penetrated in
Tajikistan to spread the Jihad ideas and attract republican citizens in
the organization. In March 2010 the Tajik security services arrested
Sultanov. The Tajik security services found out that Jamaat Shariat is an
underground group created in Russia in the early 2000s that is responsible
for numerous attacks on law enforcers, security officers, servicemen and
Sufi clergymen in Dagestan.
About 100 people were convicted in Tajikistan for terrorism and
extremism from the beginning of this year. Meanwhile, the Tajik official
authorities deny the extremism and terrorism underground acting in the
country.
