SEOUL, August 27 (Itar-Tass) -- A group of representatives of five
leading religious organizations of South Korea left for the DPRK on Friday
with a cargo of food aid. This is the second batch of humanitarian aid on
the lines of South Korean non-governmental organizations since May of this
year after the South Korean government banned trips of civilians to the
DPRK in connection with the sinking of the corvette Chonan, the Seoul
media report.
Nine members of the delegation representing Catholics, Buddhists,
Protestants and other confessions accompany a motorcade of ten trucks
carrying 300 tons of flour worth 209,000 dollars. The first group of
religious figures delivered a batch of medicines for combating malaria
worth over 300,000 dollars.
It is supposed that the second batch of humanitarian aid will be
distributed among residents of the border city Keson and nearby districts
of the North Korean province of Hwanghae-namdo.
