TOKYO, August 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The former Japanese prime minister and
one of the leaders of the ruling Democratic Party, Yukio Hatoyama, flied
to Moscow on Thursday to attend a presentation of his son Kiichiro's book
on traffic jams in the Russian capital, a source in the Tokyo secretariat
of the politician told Itar-Tass. A book presentation, which Moscow Mayor
Yuri Luzhkov promised to attend, will be held on Thursday.
On Friday, the former Japanese prime minister and his son will perform
as amateur musicians in the concert "Let's the Sun Shining Forever!" The
concert will be held at the Novaya Opera Theatre in Moscow.
The son of the former prime minister, Kiichiro Hatoyama, 34, has been
lecturing at the Higher Business School of the Moscow State University
since February 2008 and studying the traffic problems in Moscow, because
he had defended a thesis on transport and urban economy in Japan. In
autumn 2009 he presented to the Moscow government his recommendations
seeking to ease up the traffic jam problem. Then the idea popped up to lay
down these proposals in a book intended for a broad audience.
The book entitled "Moscow: transport problems of the megapolis" is
coauthored with chief of the transport and communication department of the
Moscow government Vasily Kichedzhi. Specifically, the book dwells on the
measures, which Japan is taking to fight traffic jams. "Certainly, traffic
jams cannot be brought to naught in Moscow immediately, but the situation
can be improved," Kiichiro Hatoyama said in an interview with Itar-Tass
earlier. "For instance you should deal with the switchover time of the
street lights at various crossroads, the systems of turns and bypassing
roads," Hatoyama noted. Hatoyama Jr. also offers to Moscow drivers to take
care of the driving culture. For instance, he is concerned that some
drivers cross the stop line and block the traffic on the perpendicular
lane in the traffic jams. Hatoyama is well aware of these problems from
his own experience. He is driving a small Nissan in Moscow.
