Hasluck all but gone to the coalition
The AEC has taken the Western Australian seat of Hasluck off its close list after
Liberal candidate Ken Wyatt extended his lead.
As of 1830 (AEST) on Wednesday, Mr Wyatt was 765 votes ahead of incumbent Sharryn
Jackson with only the counting of provisional ballots yet to begin.
Labor's hopes of holding on to the seat of Brisbane were looking stronger as
incumbent Arch Bevis closed to within 382 votes of Liberal Teresa Gambaro with
initial counting of postal votes falling Mr Bevis' way.
If Mr Bevis' strong performance in absentee and postal votes continues he should
retake the lead from Ms Gambaro leaving the seat to be decided on the remaining
provisional votes.
The Victorian seat of Corangamite is also still in play with Labor's Darren
Cheeseman 573 votes ahead of Liberal Sarah Henderson after 75 per cent of postal
votes had been counted.
Independent candidate Andrew Wilkie looks set to capture the Tasmanian seat of
Denison, holding on to a 1296 vote lead with around 6000 votes still outstanding.
This takes the seat tally to 72 seats to the Coalition, 71 to Labor, four
independents and one Green with two seats still undecided.
