Int'l SNS energy exhibition to open in Norway on Tuesday.
.
OSLO, August 24 (Itar-Tass) - An exhibition-and-conference on the
theme of "The Shelf of Northern Seas -- 2010" (SNS) opens in the city of
Stavanger, the petroleum capital of Norway, on Tuesday, with 1,351
companies from 32 countries participating. The exhibition will run until
August 27.
In their own pavilion, Russian companies participating in the
extractive sector's major international event will tell about their
activities.
The SNS organizing committee has announced, "This exhibition is the
floor for the presentation and discussion of main political, economic, and
technological matters which concern the world's oil and gas industry".
Yelena Rytova, curator of the Russian pavilion, has told Itar-Tass,
"Attention in this exhibition is great around the world. Russia, of
course, generates much interest among participants in the event, for we
represent the world leaders (in this respect), not just the country's
major companies."
Rytova said speeches are to be made at business sessions on the
Russian side by Vsevolod Cherepanov, head of Gazprom's department for the
production of gas, gas condensate, and oil, and Sergei Donskoy, Deputy
Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology.
Along with 20 national and regional pavilions, there will be also
functioning four special parks devoted to innovative technologies,
renewable sources of energy, the capture and storage of carbon dioxide, as
well as to cooperation in space and energy industries.
The exhibition and conference will be declared open by Harald V, the
King of Norway, under whose patronage the event is held, and by Prime
Minister Jens Stoltenberg. A gala concert is to be given in the concert
hall of Stavanger on Tuesday night, with the participation of prominent
Norwegian musicians.
The SNS exhibition-and-conference, which was first held in 1974, is
arranged once in two years. This time the organizers expect up to 42,000
visitors from over 100 countries.
.Medvedev, Juncker to discuss Skolkovo coop'n prospects.
MOSCOW, August 24 (Itar-Tass) - The modernization-related partnership
of Russia and Luxembourg in Skolkovo will be one of subjects of discussion
during talks in Sochi on Tuesday between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
and Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, who arrives in Russia
for a working visit, the Kremlin press service has announced.
During the upcoming top-level talks, the sides are expected to discuss
the most promising areas of Russo-Luxembourg interaction:
modernization-related partnership, on the basis of Skolkovo, in
particular, joint projects in high-technology and energy sectors, in
financial-and-investment and banking spheres, and in the development of
trade, economic, regional, and cultural cooperation.
Within the period of January to June this year, bilateral trade
turnover grew by 26.2 percent as compared with the corresponding period of
2009 to run at $56.6 million. Russian export there decreased by 8.9
percent to amount to $1.7 million while import, on the contrary, increased
by 27.7 percent (amounting to $54.9 million). The sum of Luxembourg
cumulative investments in the Russian economy is $36,400 million, or 13.7
percent of the overall amount (third after the Netherlands and Cyprus).
The similar indicator for Russian investments is $1,200 million.
A Kremlin source has told Itar-Tass, "Within the scope of the
(forthcoming) meeting between Medvedev and Juncker it is planned to
discuss global financial-and-economic, and current international problems.
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg makes a tangible and positive contribution
to the formation of a common European space, and to cooperation and
security. Juncker is known in our country as one of the most far-sighted
European politicians. Russia regards him as a reliable partner who
promotes a transition to a genuinely constructive dialogue with the
European Union and as an important interlocutor in the dialogue on the
problems of Russia's interaction with NATO. The two countries also
maintain interaction at the United Nations, at the Organization for
Security and Cooperation in Europe and within the framework of many other
international formats aimed at settling the most acute international
problems and regional crises -- those in the Middle East, in Afghanistan,
and over Iran's nuclear programme".
Juncker's visit will be made on the eve of a memorable date in the
history of the two states -- the 75th anniversary of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between Russia and Luxembourg. The relations were
established in 1935. However, active contacts had begun much earlier. Way
back in 1867, it was precisely Russia that suggested the convocation of
the London international conference on the Luxembourg issue. As a result
if that conference, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg obtained state
sovereignty.
Contacts between Russian and Luxembourg leadership, as well as between
representatives of political and business circles are of regular nature.
The Luxembourg Prime Minister's arrival in Russia is a sixth one within a
decade.
