Jacobz the new X Factor host
(AAP) Luke Jacobz is the new host of TV talent show The X Factor.
The Home and Away star will take over from Matthew Newton, who quit the Seven network show amid allegations he violently assaulted his actress girlfriend Rachael Taylor.
"I was driving home from the snow, I went to the snow on the weekend and I was just
heading back up the freeway, and got a phone call from the network late last night
(Sunday) ... and they said: `Want you to think about something'," he told Seven's
Today Tonight program.
"I said: `OK, happy to think'. They said: `What do you think about X Factor?'."
Jacobz, 29, was thrust into the job after Newton - the son of showbiz couple Bert
and Patti Newton - was forced to withdraw from the plum hosting gig on the
much-heralded new show.
News Ltd reported a series producer "escorted" Newton home to Australia from Ireland
following two alleged incidents with Taylor in Rome.
A statement from Taylor's manager on Monday says the actress and model has taken out
an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Newton and is considering further legal
action.
Jacobz wished Newton well.
"I wish him all the best and I hope I can do a good a job as he was going to do, so
we'll see how that turns out," he said.
Seven is yet to announce what it will do with the pre-recorded episodes of The X
Factor featuring Newton that were due to premiere next week.
