PM urges entrepreneurs to add value to products and services
BANGKOK, Aug 24 – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Monday urged entrepreneurs to step up their efforts to provide added value to their products and services under the concept of the creative economy.
Presiding over the Prime Minister’s Export Award presentation ceremony held by the Commerce Minister, he said the government had given importance to the country’s exports.
The government had joined with the private sector to adjust Thailand's marketing strategy to increase the country's market share in new export destinations including Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.
Also, it had cashed in on geographic advantages, logistic competence, and free trade area agreements at both the bilateral and multilateral levels for Thailand's maximum benefit.
With the measures, he said, Thai exports in the first half of 2010 surged by 36.6 per cent to US$93.07 billion year on year, resulting in the Commerce Ministry revising the export growth target for this year upward to 20 per cent from 14 per cent.
What entrepreneurs should do, he said, is to speed up creating added value to their products and services under the creative economy concept and simultaneously give importance to environmental protection.
Should entrepreneurs produce products and services with their creative thinking, Mr Abhisit said, it would make a difference and impress consumers, which could contribute greatly to economic growth.
Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai voiced confidence that exports in 2010 would grow by 20 per cent as targeted. The ministry will attempt to drive export growth of 10 per cent in 2011. (MCOT online news)
