.North Korean troops evacuating residents from flood-stricken area.

PYONGYANG, August 22 (Itar-Tass) - Warplanes and North Korean ships
participate in a rescue operation in the areas of Sinuiju City, Pyongan
province, stricken by a heavy inundation, caused by torrential rains, the
KCNA news agency reported on Sunday.
Troops evacuated over 5,000 people from this dangerous zone, located
on the border with China. An order on starting the operation was given by
North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il.
The inundation started on Saturday when the Amnok River overflowed its
banks. As a result, many residents were forced to save their lives on
houseroofs and hills.
Transport traffic was paralysed in the area of Sinuiju, and much
damage was inflicted on numerous economic facilities. Waters flooded
private homes, public buildings and agricultural fields.
