VP : KARADZIC'S ARREST LINKED TO HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE
Jakarta, July 26 (ANTARA) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla said the arrest of former Serbia Bosnian leader Radovan Karadzic had to do do with human right violations, and the international efforts to settle his case must be supported.
"He was arrested not because he is accused of killing many Muslims but of crimes against humanity, killing thousands of people," Kalla said in response to press questions here on Friday.
"To us, the Indonesian government, it's about human rights issue and we fully must support the efforts to settle the case," he said.
After living in hiding for 13 years, Radovan Karadzic was arrested in the vicinity of Belgrade on July 21.
The Hague Tribunal indicted Karadzic for genocide, crimes against humanity, violation of laws and practices of warfare committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, when he was president of the Srpska republic and supreme commander of its armed forces.
Karadzic was president of the Srpska republic from December 1992 to July 1996.
