Iran, Turkey to hold joint economic commission meeting

Iran and Turkey will discuss the issues pertaining to commerce, exporters and border trade in a joint commercial commission meeting to be held here in November.

The issue was raised during a meting between Iran’s Commerce Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari and Turkish Ambassador to Iran Umit Yardim.

Yardim invited Ghazanfari to take part in COMCEC (Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation) Summit to be held in Turkey from October 6-10.

Referring to the satisfactory record of ties between Iran and Turkey, Ghazanfari said that based on the preferential trade agreement, Iran has officially announced the list of its needed goods.

The agreement was finalized during the 21st Joint Economic Commission meeting last year.

The situation of Economic Cooperation Organization Trade Agreement (ECOTA) was another topic raised by the Turkish envoy during the meeting.

Ghazanfari said that it has been approved by Majlis and Guardians Council. The list of the goods has been released to Article One Commission and it is awaiting confirmation.

Liberalization of trade in Iran will pave the way for a competitive economy for all countries and it will be more in the interest of Turkey given its closeness to Iran, he said.

Yardim, for his part, said that the two countries have long-standing economic and commercial cooperation.

Commercial sector is the best field for promotion of bilateral relations, he said.
