North Korea demands compensation from Japan for Korea occupation
PYONGYANG, August 20 (Itar-Tass) - Japan should immediately "offer
apologises for more than 40 years of Korea's occupation and compensate for
the damages," a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a
statement made public by the KCNA news agency over the centenary of Korea'
s annexation under the treaties fabricated in Tokyo.
The North Korean Foreign Ministry recalled that the Japanese
authorities had taken away forcibly more than 8.4 million Koreans for
slave labour from 1910 to 1945. About a million of Koreans died in the
captivity. Apart from Japan, the Koreans were brought to China, Indonesia,
Burma (currently Myanmar), Singapore, the Philippines and other countries
captured by the Japanese imperial army. Meanwhile, in the 30-40s of the
previous century about 200,000 Korean women were exposed to sexual
violence by Japanese officers and men.
"Japan should abandon any attempts to rewrite the history and to
revive militarism and to stop immediately the hostile policy towards North
Korea," the North Korean Foreign Ministry believes.
The country's Foreign Ministry demands from Tokyo to give up the
country's ungrounded claims for a small group of Dokdo (Takeshima) islands
in the Sea of Japan (East Sea).
Only fulfilling these demands Japan "can make a contribution in a
stronger peace and stability in the region and to ensure security of the
country," the North Korean diplomat underlined.
