MONGOLIANS TO BE TRAINED FOR "OYU TOLGOI" PROJECT
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ At the Wednesday cabinet meeting, the Premier mentioned that during his tour to the western nine aimags a majority of the people he had met were asking about job places in the Oyu tolgoi project, and ordered Ministries of Social Welfare and Labor, of Education, Culture and Science, and of Road, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development to tackle this matter. Thanks to this an opportunity may appear for the local people to enroll in vocational training centers (VTC), gain professions and enter jobs being offered by the Oyu tolgoi project.
The “Oyu tolgoi” LLC intends to give professions to 3,300 people making investments of MNT 36 billion within next three years. It means that foundations of VTCs will be laid, money for buildings and dormitories are to be issued, and scholarships will be given in the 2010-2011 academic years.
The Prime Minister obliged related Ministers to make agreements with the “Oyu tolgoi” LLC to let let the prepared professionals and workers work not only for the Oyu tolgoi project but also for the govermental biggest projects and programs on mining sector and on constructing railways, auto roads and industrial parks.
Pursuant to the cabinet decision, those studying in VTCs with investments of the “Oyu tolgoi” LLC will be included in the number of the Mongolian workers of the company. As of present, the Oyu tolgoi project is employing 4,366 people--1,618 foreigners and 2,748 Mongolians.
The Oyu tolgoi project is divided into sub-projects covering almost all sectors such as construction, steel construction, mechanics, and electricity transmission line (ETL) for erecting the mine. It is expected that, by the year 2012, open cast mines will be ready to start producing concentrate from 2013.
The “Oyu tolgoi” LLC plans to lay foundations within this year and to start installation of mechanic accessories and ETL from 2011.
